Swimming & Diving National Champions
In 2012, Drury University’s Swimming and Diving teams were denied a fourth consecutive sweep of the men’s and women’s NCAA Division II titles by…one….point.
At the 2013 Division II meet in Birmingham, Alabama, the planets re-aligned in Drury’s favor. The Panthers men’s team won its ninth straight title beating second place Florida Southern by 149 points. The Drury women’s team topped Wayne State by 44.5 points.
The Drury men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have swept the titles in four of the last five years.
Drury head coach Brian Reynolds was named the Men’s and Women’s National “Coach of the Year.”
Basketball National Champions
The Drury University Men’s Basketball team won its first ever NCAA Division II championship on Sunday, April 7 by beating Metropolitan State University of Denver 74-73 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The victory capped off a 31-4 season for the Panthers, and Drury finished the year on a 23-game winning streak. Drury had not won a national basketball title since the Panthers won the NAIA championship in 1979.
Drury Head Coach Steve Hesser was named the NABC Division II Coach of the Year. The Panthers will play a preseason exhibition game at Duke University in the fall of 2013.
